We are saddened to share the news that Debbie Sarow, proprietress of Mercer Street Books, has passed away. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July 2016 and succumbed to the disease on August 20, 2018.

In July of 2009, Debbie took ownership of the shop at 7 Mercer Street and created the bookstore we have grown to appreciate. These 9 years have been a labor of love you can see in every detail--the art on the walls, the plants on the shelves, and the staff who help you find what you didn’t know you were looking for.

Debbie wanted the bookstore to remain open and that’s what we’ll do.

A memorial and celebration of Debbie will be held
2pm on October 25th at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 15 Roy Street.
